Top Ten Reasons To Become A Veterinarian
Top Ten Reasons To Become A Veterinarian
In honor of World Veterinary Day, here are our top ten reasons to become a veterinarian!!
1. You get to help animals! You probably could have come up with this one yourself, but it’s still true. Veterinarians have the opportunity to help animals every day. They diagnose and treat animal diseases, perform surgery, and provide other medical care. They also educate pet owners on animal care and nutrition.
2. You can make a difference in the world. Veterinarians can make a real difference in the world by working to improve animal welfare and protect the environment. They advocate for animal welfare laws and policies. This includes working to ensure that animals are treated humanely in all settings, including research facilities, zoos, and farms.
3. You’ll have a rewarding career. Veterinary medicine is a gratifying occupation that allows you to be there for animals that don’t have a voice of their own, and to support and educate the people that care for them. It is also a challenging and stimulating profession that requires you to use your skills and knowledge to solve problems in an ever-changing environment.
4. Free snuggles. If you enjoy working with your hands and also love animals, then veterinary medicine is the place for you! Veterinarians perform a variety of procedures, including surgery, suturing, and injections… not to mention the hugging, petting, and occasional corralling of pets and animals of all shapes and sizes.
5. You could be your own boss. Many veterinarians choose to open their own veterinary practices. (Pssst! We help veterinarians do this!) This allows them to be their own boss, set their own hours, and create the change they hope to see in the world as they build a positive community for the team they work with.
6. You can travel. Some veterinarians choose to work in different parts of the world. This allows them to see new places and meet new people. You could join an organization that provides international veterinary aid and improves the lives of animals all over the world. You may also choose to become a mobile veterinarian and travel to different locations providing medical care to animals on-site.
7. You are always learning new things. Veterinary medicine is a constantly evolving field with new and different cases every day. There is always something new to learn, which can keep your job interesting and challenging. You’ll never be bored.
8. You’ll have job security. The demand for veterinarians is at an all-time high and is expected to grow in the coming years. This is due to the increasing popularity of pets, the aging population of pets, and the increasing awareness of animal welfare. There are currently more dogs in the United States (76 million) than there are children under 18 (73 million) and the numbers are growing!
9. You can have a flexible schedule. Many veterinarians have flexible schedules. They can often work part-time or have flexible hours, which can make it easier to balance work and personal life. Additionally, choosing to work as a relief vet allows for varied hours and even more flexibility.
10. Your career options are wide open. Veterinarians can work in a variety of settings, including private practice, government, industry, and academia. This flexibility allows veterinarians to find a career that is a good fit for their interests and skills. Don’t be afraid to think outside the traditional clinic box – you can help animals in many places and many ways!
